Each year, the Community Bands of Nova Scotia and from around the various provinces, get together at 2 organized Bandfests.

In the summertime, the Annapolis Basin Community Band under the direction of Jolene Buchholz, host a Summertime Bandfest in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. This usually happens the 4th weekend in July. Look for the information on our website. You need to book your own accommodations.
In the fall, Second Wind Community Band, hosts a Bandfest in Cape Breton. In past years we hosted our fest at the beautiful Gaelic College in St. Ann’s on the picturesque and famous Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. Now we have started hosting our Bandfests in the Sydney area and our dates are usually the last weekend or days in September. In 2009, Sept. 25-27, in 2010, Sept. 24-26 and in 2011, September 30, Oct. 1 & 2.

Our guest conductors have been Rowan FitzGerald, from Charlottetown, PEI, Richard Bennett from Middleton, NS and Maggie Helms from Kentville, NS. We always look for a unique experience for our community band members at bandfest and a great performance experience to go along with that.
At our Bandfests, some of the repertoire we work on and perform are combinations of standard charts to charts written by Ron MacKay and some arranged by conductor, Richard Bennett.
The unique experience at one of our Fall Fests was the birth of the Ron MacKay “Music For Life” French Horn Choir”. You can see more about the choir on the Ron MacKay Page.
